Project Antman (Full costume on pg 3) |

So I'm thinking of doing an Antman costume for Comic Con but the only thing I can foresee giving me a problem would be the helmet.
I'm thinking of trying to make one using the cardboard tutorial but wanted to see if anyone else had any other ideas of how to make one or if anyone have
seen one done before. Thanks

Query: Have I made this?
Answer: No. But my specialty was always seeing how it could be done and what will serve to accomplish the task. I would haunt my hardware store to do it. I think a simple silvered shower head could be modified for the "mouthpiece/speaker." The tricky part would be getting the flexible cones on either side of his head that also taper to make the shape you will need. THAT will be a booger - best guess - get some car exhaust pipes - even if you cannot use them (because fo their extreme weight) , you can use them for a mold process and fill any created shape with Great Stuff (a sprayable hardening foam used in plumbing fixes.) But the helmet and antenna are very producible as you suggest, using the tutorial on the How To forum. Good luck and best wishes.

Interesting advice. Is there a specific brand of that sprayable hardening foam used in plumbing fixes that you would recommend?

You could make the front "mandibles" out of one of those plastic horned viking helmets, the horns are removable.

Dammit Brin you beat me too it.....
and the 'voicebox' at the front.........hairdryer defuser.
...It looks like a fist. It's so disturbing.

Oh those are some good ideas. And Allen recommended this link for a good idea of what I can make the helmet out of http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/jdoud/spaceballhelm.html . now I just need to see if my
local home depot has a globe like that one. Otherwise this thing is looking very doable. Keep the suggestions coming guys this is great brain storming

Antenna could be kids plastic drumsticks or just plain old radio antenna. You could buy one of those space helmets sold on Ebay for $19 and maybe use the
plastic globe portion of it. I have one and my 24 inch noggin fits in it just fine.

when i was adding Ant Man to your design file for the Avengers Assemble cards, i used this image to source.
and that made me think... how about an ant for you to ride on? maybe build an ant around a skateboard? take it to the next level! haha. i also took a shine to this variation of Ant Man, aka Scott Lang.

Yeah that art is cool, it's actually what kind of got me digging Ant man's design. Scott Lang has a cool costume no doubt but give me good old Jack
Kirby's design hands down.
As for the ridable ant; that is a neat idea but with the crouds bad as they are at Comic con I don't think it would go over well with security. But I'll deffentyl;y keep it in mind. I've already begun sewing up the body suit and should have something to show by next week. I've also begun gathering the materials for the helmet. Over all I'm going for these two designs with a little more dark shade of color
But hey, I got a question for the board. Yay or Nay on the jagged ends of the gloves? I'm going to make gloves for sure but I can't decide weather or not to put jagged ends on them like Kirby's design. Does it even matter?

Does it even matter?I say if you can do the jagged ends easily, then go for it, but it won't break the costume if you don't. We'll still know who you are. |

Love the jagged ends. Gives it that extra retro feel.

If you end up doing the Antman costume I would be happy to do the belt and buckle for ya, let me know |

i agree with StanLee Wannabe, dig the retro feel of the jagged edging on the gloves' forearm. But i will say that from a design stand point, it just seems
odd- that aesthetic isn't carried anywhere else on the suit.
so i suppose you can look at it in two ways- replica suit, or improve on the design. either way, i really do appreciate the Ant Man costume more and more.

The Yays have it. Thanks for the impute guys, in the end I think I would rather do a replica because who am I to improve JK's perfection.

Here's some progress pics of the helmet. The parts consist of cardboard, and paper towel tubes.
