Ugh. I really, really can't catch a break when it comes to costuming. Anybody thinking of using Grifter's Custom Creations (GCC), DON'T. A thousand times, DO NOT USE GRIFTER. Let's do the TL;DR ahead of time: He went over the due date I gave him despite having 4 months to complete it, over stretched himself with orders apparently, put his own projects ahead of paying customers and finished newer commissions first, based a cape design on his own whims instead of what I requested, and is now not responding to requests for a refund.
I ordered a Scarlet Witch cape and comic Daredevil costume from him back in March, making his required half payment up front. He told me that he'd be able to start it in April or May, and I made it clear that I would need to have the costumes in hand by July 15th, giving a good month's cushion before Fanexpo in case anything went wrong.
I contacted him a handful of times to check on the progress, at the end of May, start of July, and finally July 27th. Every time I was advised that the DD costume would be 'coming up soon' and 'No pics of DD yet, but soon' and finally at the end of July, two weeks past when it was supposed to be IN MY HAND, he responded with "Yes, its being made. Im a bit behind at the point, but im catching up. Expect somr pics this week. Sorry for the delay, im currently inundated." I gave him one more deadline, for 8/4, to show me pictures of the costume sewn and airbrushed or I was cancelling the order.
Lo and behold, Monday comes and goes with no reply, and no pics. What really cheeses me off is that in the FOUR MONTHS since he was supposed to start work, he's completed a Winter Soldier, Cable, Hope Summers, and possibly a Deadpool costume for himself and friends. I don't fault him for completing his own costumes, but in addition he completed a Grayson harness that the design wasn't even released for until June. So he's giving newer orders priority, and finishing his personal projects before customers'.
And these are just the issues with the Daredevil costume. For the Scarlet Witch cape he completely ignored what I had in the order and made it how he wanted. I provided him with the exact pics based on Frank Cho's art, and instead he made something more akin to a floppy Doctor Strange cape. I was willing to let it slide because my wife thought it would be more comfortable to wear, but it doesn't negate the fact that he was going to blatantly ignore what I wanted.
Now, to top things off when I, let's be honest, demanded the full amount back for failure to deliver and make what I wanted, I've gotten no response. Not even to the slightly irrational request that it be refunded by Wed 2 days later, saying he needed more time, or trying to correct the situation. I'm willing to work out a refund within the next week or so, but the short time frame was to get SOME reaction out of him.
